Add a little Zen to your modern Los Angeles home
The pace of life in Los Angeles is known for being hectic. It’s also the city that never sleeps as glitz and glamour stay awake through all hours of the night. For others Los Angeles is hectic because it’s a large metro area, similar to Miami or New York. While California can be known for a more laid back lifestyle than other areas of the United States, sometimes you might want to add a touch of Zen or feng shui to your home and its furniture. The little touches can make your California bungalow a much more relaxing place to be.
The goal is to get rid of clutter, organizing your space into a more calming environment by increasing cleanliness and functionality to your room.
Go around the house, from room to room carefully considering all of the knick-knacks and accent pieces out in your home. All they all necessary? Can some be put away to be rotated out? Use the space you have, adding shelves and cubbyholes as needed to hide away clutter, creating a clean look to your home. In your living room, let the ottoman double as a storage box and the TV console as a place to store games, movies and more.
Does your kitchen table need to be the depository for everything your family does? Can you find ways to organize your family into sections, even creating one basket to hold mail and important notices so they aren’t strewn everywhere. Take the time to regularly clear the paperwork that can stack up around the house.
Don’t leave too many items strewn about if you can help it. If you’ve got children, this can be tougher since they seem to leave a trail of belongings and it can be a battle to get them to clean up. Give everything a place so it’s easier for them to keep track of their belongings and keep it neater.
Next, open all your windows and let the fresh air wind its way through your living room, dining room, bedroom, office and everywhere in your house. In California, winds are notorious for coming in off the ocean, so take advantage and air out the house as you create a more relaxing home. Wood floors are a nice touch as are nice candleholders and green shrubbery.
In general, keep it simple so its simple to mainatain your Zen ambiance throughout your modern home. Los Angeles can be a chaotic place to live, but you can create a Zen-like experience in your home with these few tips.
