There is a place for traditional furniture. We should acknowledge our roots, our traditions because without them there would be no base upon which to explode from and this is exactly what great modern furniture design does so well.

Of course the title begs the question then what is the first most valued room? The answer is a pretty easy one, the kitchen. It is a place to gather to share food, share news with our family and enjoy both the smaller and larger moments of our lives. Since this would be considered first then it would only make sense to keep the second most valued room in the house, the living room close by.

Typical in most floor plans, the kitchen and the living room are usually designed to be close to each other. Designers of the past would many times place a wall with a door in between. This separation of space to function has been dissolved today and we prefer to live in open floor plans where there is an easy flow between kitchen, living room and the dining room. With this sharing of space, our furniture needs to be able to perform under a variety of conditions supporting an anniversary party or a quiet family dinner. With this kind of requirement of multi-use of our living spaces, our living room furniture should be able to be light enough to be moved around as well as provide ample storage especially with hide behind doors. We don’t want to spend all day dusting off our stuff.
