Shopping for modern furniture in Los Angeles

Perspective Bed Setting 1003x1024 Shopping for modern furniture in Los AngelesIf you are in the Los Angeles area and looking for a furniture store, there are a few things you need to consider before you decide which type of home furniture store you would like to shop at. The first thing you need to do is decide whether you are looking for a minimalist effect, a contemporary look, a Zen look or Modern, or even Baroque.

If you don’t know what type of furniture you would like, first ask yourself what you need to buy to complete the interior design of your home. Are you looking to finish off your living room? If you are, what pieces of furniture do you need to complete the room? Tables? Big? Small? Do you need chairs to go with that table or a sofa to go around your coffee table? What about a sectional sofa versus a traditional sofa? Look at how big the room is and then decide. What color scheme are you looking to decorate your living room with? How many accessories will accent the room, and are they color-coordinated with your tables, chairs and sofa?

When in Los Angeles, there are many places you can buy furniture, so it’s best to do your research before you walk into the store. If you are picking out dining room furniture such as a dining table and chairs, take a picture of your kitchen and bring it with you. Write down the colors your want for your kitchen furniture and imagine how they will look in your kitchen. You can always seek the help of an expert in interior design if you don’t know what colors to pick to complement your home. Browse modern furniture online so you have an idea what you like.

Even picking out office furniture can be a big decision to make sure it captures the essence of your home. Contemporary design and modern furniture can make the typical home office look elegant and unique.

And don’t forget your outdoor and patio furniture. Living in Los Angeles means lots of opportunities to entertain outside, so when picking your Los Angeles furniture store, be sure to find one that presents options to decorate your entire room so you can create an amazing interior design package.

Decorated with minimalist styles and modern furniture

fb page 231x300 Decorated with minimalist styles and modern furnitureStunning is the first thing that comes to mind when entering into a well designed minimalist room. The modern furniture powerful in its’ simplicity, is spare adding only essential details to underscore the drama of how much a few well chosen pieces of modern furniture design and accessories can completely fill a room. It is important to remember that space has a presence whether it is filled with stuff or not. Absence can be just as strong a design element as presence. In absence there is presence and what is present becomes more engaging because of the presence of absence.

This allows our senses; our eyes, to be able to fully understand a piece in its totality. With ample space around a minimalist modern sofa, we are able to fully observe the piece from all sides. Intrigued as much regarding the form and nuance noted from the back as well as the sides and the front, the modern sofa becomes alive, rich in detail that might otherwise be missed if cluttered with side tables and more.

Minimalist furniture serves to accent and highlight the best in modern furniture design giving weight to each design gesture and us the time to embrace the form of each piece. It is only when we realize that the curvy three dimensional detailing on the front of the modern armoire is echoed through visual interpretation in the back rests of the dining room chairs does it begin to make sense.

It is this dynamic translation of design elements and basic volume perceptions that can provide a base for a powerful mix of form and function, dynamic color transpositions and qualities of opaque and translucent; light and dark. Shadows and light play becomes an essential element of quirky humor and stretching of the imagination.

Modern furniture design at once complements and challenges our perception of what is right and wrong, appropriate and experimental. Lines undulate in a modern recliner that provides restful respite for a sense of protective encirclement. Rich with visual tapestry; materials and textiles become one and a mosaic of texture; smooth and cool to the touch, warm and soft to our skin. Minimalism lays bare our desire to fully experience each and every sensory experience to the utmost allowing our entrance via graceful lines and jarringly straight forgiving lines that curl mysteriously just as it becomes too rigid for our pleasure. Compromising and demanding, exciting and allusive, minimalist is modern design at its core.

The contemporary furniture style is more functional

Reading about modern furniture designers over the past century it is easy to spot a trend that happened in furniture design. Furniture prior to the twentieth century followed tightly ordered and structured laws of proper design in a traditional manner. Sometimes more involved in ornamentation than actual consideration for functional use or human proportions, people seemingly needed to adapt to accommodate the furniture rather than the other way around.

Modern furniture designers deliberately separated themselves away from this single minded view of furniture as mere decoration and literally exploded into the world of furniture design with modern, contemporary ideas utilizing new materials and exploring construction techniques not previously considered.

With this same embracing of new ideas and concepts came the ideas regarding furniture’s new found place in the home and pushed the design to be more functional embracing places for storage and flexibility for multi-purpose use. This is a concept that many modern designers championed seeing the home and the life lived within its walls as a responsive living machine. While some did not like the reference of human beings as mechanical, it allowed for a reshaping of how we use our living spaces.

Dining room tables no longer only accommodate the Sunday special dinner and holidays, finding themselves host to children’s homework, folded laundry and not so surprising, everyday meals as well. Gone is the formality and the strict division of furniture to task but rather a more integrated way of living that is more casual and for many, more comfortable.

Large oversized chairs with hard flat wooden seats might be fit for a king but for comfortable seating it was anything but. Probably even the king did not look forward to sitting in them for any great length of time. With ergonomics in mind, the human body was explored and celebrated with functional, modern furniture that fit the new contemporary lifestyle.

Dining rooms, tired of being closed off from the rest of the home became a part of the open living concept linking spaces normally closed off from each other; the kitchen, the living room and the dining room. With this new form of architectural space planning, modern wall units gained favor as a way to create some sense of spatial separation while still allowing the easy flow of traffic and conversation between rooms. Substituting a wall unit for a wall opened up a whole new world of possibility providing storage and display space. Suddenly everything got a whole lot less cluttered.

French style dining chairs

Looking for French styled dining room chairs opens a world of modern furniture possibilities. With so many variations from which to choose from, selecting the right one for you should prove to be challenging and a lot of fun.

French country dining chairs with provincial style is at home exuding a kind of cottage feel. With open ladder backs and cushioned or hand woven rush seats, they typify the essence of comfort and country charm. This same ease of design can be found in outdoor wrought iron patio furniture characterized by scrolls and twining designs reminiscent of trailing vines. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor living it provides stable, secure seating that is resistant to the elements while stylishly contemporary. Paired with a round metal table topped with break resistant glass, it provides a pleasant contrast of materials and visual weight. Perfect for sitting on the patio in the afternoon sipping fresh lemonade and admiring the nearby flowering hibiscus, its versatility is only second to its creative and whimsical styling. Care for something you can settle into a bit deeper? Look for a slightly oversized rattan chair with arms that will embrace you as you enjoy the best of nature.

If desired, French dining chairs can be a bit more formal. While maintaining a similar design of the country chairs with a ladder back, additional detailing and wood reliefs ornament the chair with additional swirls and swoops in the ladder rails and the supporting legs. While not overly ornate, they begin to recall the traditional French dining chairs of the past.

A more sophisticated line for the French dining chair is realized by substituting the open ladder back with a closed often circular and rounded back. With modern’s traditional minimalist lines, the back rest should be artfully raised above the seat in silent partnership with the seat. Supported by nothing more than slender gracefully configured supports, the back rest rises to assume its proper design position. Covered in sleek modern textiles or luxurious leather, either finish is appropriate for today’s lifestyle. With proper care, clean up should be a snap accommodating use and spills with aplomb.

If you enjoy a minimalist design palette then look for a French inspired dining chair that embraces modern design completely. Fashioned from aluminum polished stainless steel with inspiring arms and cantilevered asymmetrical front and back legs, it takes dining to a whole new level where design and good taste become synonymous.
